Origina Becomes Lead Corporate Supporter of This Spaceship Earth
We are thrilled to announce that Origina is the lead corporate supporter of TSE. Here is the official press release.
Origina easily met the two criteria we at This Spaceship Earth consider when evaluating a potential corporate supporter. First, they have already shown a clear commitment to the environment by working to solve the problem of eWaste – endemic in the tech industry. We wrote about it in The Right to Repair is Long Past Due. In fact, the CEO of Origina is one of the founders of Free ICT Europe, and the COO of the company is a leader of Free ICT US. Both organizations are working to remove planned obsolescence and reduce eWaste in the Information and Communications Technologies industry.
Second, when architecting our relationship with Origina, they have repeatedly told us to do what we do, and have not tried to change our mission or messaging. They have come to us for what we are, rather than bending us to their purposes. They simply want to address our climate crisis in every way they can, and they are willing to spend time, resources and money to do so. They have wholly embraced our vision of crew consciousness and seek to help us with our mission in promoting crew consciousness around the world.
The guiding quote for This Spaceship Earth is “There are no passengers on Spaceship Earth. We are all crew.” Marshall McLuhan, the visionary and media ecologist said this around the time of the first Earth Day in 1970. Crew consciousness means that we all think and act as active crew members on Spaceship Earth… not passive passengers.
Crew consciousness is applicable to every human alive today. Climate touches everything, so everybody has the opportunity to do something. Crew consciousness is an essential step that humanity must take in the first half of the 21st century if we are to forge a new path forward – one that will result in a healthy ecosystem benefiting all.
We at This Spaceship Earth believe that one billion people thinking and acting as crew members will create the unified critical mass we need to turn the tide… to evolve from our current economy based on extraction, consumption and replacement, to one based on repair, reuse and regeneration. It is going to take all of us – governments, institutions, corporations and communities.
We thank Origina for their support and for being crew members on Spaceship Earth.
