This Spaceship Earth Names Sarasota, FL its First Crew Friendly City
This Spaceship Earth.Org is proud to announce Sarasota, FL as our first “Crew Friendly City”. We are pleased that our headquarters city is focusing on the human footprint of the community relative to the local ecology, and the beautiful environment for which the city is known.
Crew friendly cities have an awareness that citizens and civic leaders must act as crew of This Spaceship Earth. As of 2016, 54% percent of humanity lives in urban environments. That number will exceed 70% by the 2040s. So it is the leadership of cities who will set the examples, and show the way forward, for people to think and act with a crew consciousness, and to proactively face the challenges of climate change.
This Spaceship Earth wants to acknowledge any community that commits to increasing citizens’ awareness that we must all act as crew on this Spaceship Earth. We can no longer behave as passive passengers unaware of our collective effects on the planet’s limited resources and resiliency. We will engage with any city that wants to qualify as a “Crew Friendly City”.
